How to Choose a Dog Chew Toy Your Dog Will Actually Use

Your dog likes to chew. So does Nugget.

That’s why, when we found a chew toy we liked, we didn’t want to simply add it to the shop and call it a day. We wanted to see what happened when it was placed in front of real dogs.

So we brought it to Nugget and other dogs, filmed the testing, took photos, and paid attention to how they interacted with it. No complicated testing lab. No dramatic promises. Just dogs, a new toy, and plenty of curious sniffing and chewing.

That toy became the Backyard Bandit Dog Chew Toy.

What should you look for in a dog chew toy?

Every dog is different, so there’s no single toy that will be perfect for every pup. But a good place to start is with a toy that makes your dog curious and gives them something enjoyable to do.

For Nugget, scent was part of the appeal. The Backyard Bandit is beef-scented, which makes it an interesting addition to toy time and a natural fit for dogs who enjoy using their noses before they settle in to chew.

We also wanted something that felt at home in everyday life, whether your dog is relaxing after a walk, hanging out in the yard, or looking for something to do while you enjoy a quiet moment.

Meet the Backyard Bandit

The Backyard Bandit is our newest toy at Nuggy Dog Co. It’s beef-scented, tested with Nugget and other dogs, and available for $10.

The name came from the toy’s little troublemaker energy. It feels like the kind of toy that belongs near the back door, in the yard, or wherever your dog gets into their next harmless bit of mischief.

Most importantly, it earned a place in our shop because it fit the standard we care about: it had to make sense for real dogs and real routines, not just look good in a product photo.

Add it to your dog’s toy rotation

A new chew toy doesn’t have to replace every toy your dog already loves. Sometimes it’s simply nice to give them another option, especially when you’re rotating toys to keep things interesting.

You can offer the Backyard Bandit on its own, or pair it with Camp Clucker in the Cluck & Chew Combo for a two-toy setup your dog can explore at home or take along for the next backyard adventure.

A quick safety note: no dog toy is indestructible. Always supervise your dog’s play, check toys regularly, and remove them if they become damaged.

The Backyard Bandit is here, and Nugget has officially welcomed it to the pack.

Trail-Tested. Nugget-Approved.
