One of the questions we get asked all the time is:
“What do y’all actually carry with you on hikes?”
So before this Sunday’s long-form YouTube video goes live, we figured we’d share a little behind-the-scenes look at what normally comes with us every time we hit the trail.
The truth is, our hikes are never just random walks.
Some days we’re filming content.
Some days we’re clearing our heads.
Some days we just need fresh air and time away from screens, emails, and the nonstop pace of life.
But no matter where we go, we always try to be prepared.
Water & Trail Bowl
This one is non-negotiable.
Especially here in Georgia, heat and humidity can sneak up fast on both dogs and humans. Nugget always has water available during our hikes, and we usually bring along our collapsible Trail Bowl so he can drink comfortably wherever we stop.
Hydration matters more than people think.
Leash & Harness Setup
Nugget typically hikes using our Beast Harness paired with the Freedom Leash setup.
One thing we designed intentionally into the Beast Harness was the oversized front and rear D-rings. Depending on the trail, environment, or situation, we can use front attachment, rear attachment, or both for extra control.
It’s one of those small details most people may never notice, but we built it from real-world experience out on the trail.
LED Trail Light
If we’re hiking early in the morning, later in the evening, or under heavy tree cover, we almost always bring an LED Trail Light.
Visibility matters.
Not just for us, but for others around us too.
First Aid & Safety Items
Dad always carries a small trail pouch with a few important essentials:
- First aid basics
- Flashlight
- Phone battery backup
- Emergency contacts
- Bug spray
- Extra poop bags
Simple things can make a big difference when you’re spending time outdoors.
Camera Gear
A lot of people see the finished videos or photos online, but most of the time it’s just Dad carrying a camera while I sniff literally everything in the woods.
Lately, we’ve been filming more long-form content because we wanted to slow things down and share more of the real moments together instead of only quick clips.
Those slower walks and conversations have honestly started meaning a lot to both of us.
And Of Course… Camp Clucker
Let’s be honest.
Half the time I carry that thing like it’s official trail equipment.
At this point, it probably deserves its own hiking badge.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, hiking with your dog is not about having the fanciest gear or planning the perfect adventure.
It’s about spending time together.
Some of the best conversations, best memories, and best moments in life happen on quiet trails with no distractions around you.
That’s a big part of why we started sharing these longer videos in the first place.
So this Sunday morning, grab a cup of coffee and come along for the journey with us on YouTube.
We’d truly love to have y’all there.
Always remember, the Nugget loves you.
